The fatal drowning rate of African American children ages 5 to 14 is 3.1 times that of white children in the same age range (CDC, 2011). C.A.L.F answers that with science-based CPR courses — chest compressions, rescue breathing, and AED use for infants, kids, and adults — plus lifeguard training that builds the stamina to pass certification swims of 100–500 yards.
This dual program leads to certification and opens the door for more skilled individuals in the workforce who can save lives. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age — certified lifeguards start around $19,000/year.
